I had a group of middle schoolers come to the shop today and play a simple Starship Troopers style game. Players each had a squad of 5, and the bugs were run by random dice roll. They had to get across the table, check the research station for survivors, and get out alive. They got right to the gates of the station with limited engagement, but once they found the few survivors, all heck broke loose. Two bug swarms ran over one flank and the fire drew the others. The evac APCs made it just in time. They kids then played "The Hunger Games." They set up at corners and went at each other with gusto. I put a bug hole in the middle of the table and generated a swarm each turn. The bugs just wandered randomly while the kids shot it out. One kid hid out in a bunker, the bugs got a few troopers, and actually ended up finishing off the birthday boy! Check the photos: link |

I can hear it now, "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!" CHOMP, crunch, crunch. I hope he at least got to make a wish before he got eaten. |

I'd guess that he didn't. Or at least if he did, it didn't come true. His wish was probably that he not be eaten. Looks like a fun game. |

I just told my wife about this, and she said "did I paint the figures?" I said, "no. night lords and starship trooper bugs.". Nice, mark. Great when the kids have fun, right? |
