I see both Foundry and its cousin, Casting Room, have Renaissance infantry, esp Landsknecht. Are there differences between the two lines ie high vs low Renaissance or are they different, incompatible, sculpts in terms of style and size?

Thanks in advance!

I would stick with the Foundry ones that the Perry Twins sculpted years ago, they are superb figures. The casting room Landsknechts just don't come close and seem wrong to me.

If you want to mix manufacturers though, I wrote a kind of mini review of different ones when I rebased my Landsknechts last year: link

The foundry are definitely the best though, and seeing that the Casting Room ones are more expensive £12.00 GBP for 6 rather than £12.00 GBP for 8 Foundry it seems a no brainer.

The main problem with the Foundry Perrys range is like most of them it is incomplete.
The casting room ones are easier to paint but not as good as their italian range , however there are some of the character packs that are better in the flesh than on the website.

If i was mixing I would use Foundry (Perry) with Old Glory size wise, with Artizan and Warlord (Pro gloria) being very slightly larger.

The main difference is the quality of the sculpt.

Take a look, and decide for yourself. Imho the decision should be clear.

Regarding the others, I very much like Artizan (though a bit on the larger side) and Pro Gloria/Warlord Games, too. Other manufactures also offer nice addendums, like Steel Fist, Vinni, the odd (old) GW, some Redoubt….
For slightly other eras you can safely add TAG and some Perry for characters.
I have two issues with Old Glory – some of their minis are a bit off in their equipment (too puffy arms, felt hats that were simply not used) and they do come with 45° pikes, which also look ahistorical to me. You can use most of their lots though, and all if you are less itchy here.
Many conquistador ranges also offer a nice stock for Spaniards.

Malatesta, thanks for the link to your great pictures and good survey.

I agree on most points with Puster concerning the miniatures. I prefer mixing Foundry with Pro Gloria and Artizan. Though Old Glory may look a bit odd sometimes, I like them because of their active and lively poses.

Good stuff--and thanks for clarifying the differences between the two fig lines.

I ordered a book or two on the topic; however, is there a decent timeline on the web that outlines the evolution of landsknecht clothing, weapons, etc.?
