Two days ago, a long awaited parcel (15mm lead worth $270.00 CAD) finally arrived. My exaltation was badly damaged by unexpected $50 USD I had to pay for customs and brokerage. Now, it is not that I have to pay what has upset me. You pay what you need to pay. But the sheer randomness of it! I have ordered from UK, Australia, Italy- some parcels of the same value, some of lesser. I have never paid anything. Ordering from the USA is a lottery. Same value- sometimes you pay , something you don't. And while I was fuming in my backyard, the telephone rung. A man asked me to do a small job for him and his family. I accepted and did it this morning. It took me four hours. I made enough money to cover the value of the figures, the custom charge and to buy us a Thanksgiving Turkey. And I probably earned a regular customer.
Indeed, there is a lot to be thankful for.
To all my fellow wargamers, happy Canadian Thanksgiving.

Was the package delivered by a delivery service (ie ups) or by the postal service. The delivery services charge you extra for packages that cross borders.

And happy thanksgiving to you as well. (Canada gets ours first due to our shorter growing season).

Happy Thanksgiving to you from the wet coast!

For the last year or so, I have not paid any customs/admin fee for items from the U.S. Perhaps it is because my orders are small (size and amount)…hmm am I tempting fate here?
I am expecting a small order from Brigade Games any day now.

I am glad your situation worked out for you…kind of like 'paying backward'. Happy Thanksgiving.

You may wish to check with the various carriers who deliver to you to find out what size and weight limits they have before charging such fees.

I had to pay $30 USD CDN in customs on my last package (about $200 USD worth of stuff from the UK) but for the vast majority of my orders I don't and I usually order from the UK or the US.
