I use Bacchus 6mm and their figures are in strips of 4

Basic Infantry Unit – is 40mm x 20mm and has 16 figures in two ranks ( 8 and 8)
6 bases represents a large unit, 4 is standard and 2 small or tiny

Light Units including skirmishers and Indians for War of 1812 – 20mm square base 4 figures irregularly based
one base represents 1/2 a standard bases so 4 bases r represents a tiny unit 8 a standard and 12 a large unit

if bases touch they are considered in close order not touching is open order

Artillery 20mm square base 1 gun with 4 crew- limbers are base separaetely

Cavalry is also on a 20mm square base -with 2 figures per base for light cavalry and 3 figures for a heavy unit

We use 40mm wide bases, as can be seen here: link

20mm deep for infantry (3 ranks of 10 for line infantry, 2 ranks of 10 for light infantry).
30mm depth for cavalry, in 1 rank.
40mm depth for a battery of 2 cannon.

4 bases for a normal-sized unit, 6 bases for large, 2 bases for small and 1 base for tiny.

Hope this helps,
Hugh

All my 6mm figures are on 20mm square bases.

I am using 20mm bases, 6 for bases for infantry, 8 inf on each base.

Seems to work well.

Hello Shakespear!

Its generally a good idea to base to match the figures, not any particular rule set. This is part of the steam behind the rise of the 60mm x 30mm base used for Polemos (rules sold by Baccus). Your entire army can be based only using two bases the 60x30 for infantry, cavalry, limbers and wagons. The 30x30 for artillery and commanders.

For Black Powder a few different approaches have been used by people who have these bases.

1) They simply don't use the formation rules in Black Powder.

2) They use the rule from Polemos that states that units are always in the best formation for the situation at hand. So if it's an issue players simply declare their formation.

3) They use formation markers for column or square otherwise units are assumed to be in line.

4) They use two 60x30 bases together to form line, column or square.

5) Units are extended by adding the appropriate number of 30x30 bases to the basic base of 60x30. Along with formation changes this also allows you to create different sizes of units.

Best regards,

Glenn

I use 20 mm squares with 8 infantry or 3 cavalry per square. 3-4 bases make a cavalry squadron. 6 bases make most infantry units. Some skirmishers are based 2-3 to a square ….
artillery are on larger squares with 1 gun per square and 3 squares per battery.

There is a 6mm war gaming group on facebook. You can see my figures on there.
