I recently watched a 1950's film with Errol Flynn called The Warriors and it a film set during the 100 Years War.

And Errol Flynn played Prince Edward son of the King.

And it had some good moments showing Mounted Knights etc so I was thinking about other films set during the Hundered Years War.

I've seen other films like Joan of Arc and Henry V(multiple films)and I might've seen others but don't remember them and I do like the period so can some of you come up with a list of some of the better films to watch of this period?

Thanks
Michael

The War Lord link
Chimes at Midnight link both released in 1965!

Shakespeare's Henry V or the various Joan of Arc movies. El Cid has its moments.

There's also been some decent TV series such as Ivanhoe, Cadfael & Robin of Sherwood.

Kingdom of Heaven and Arn the Knight Templar have a real feel for medieval battle, even though both are about The Crusades.

El Cid, and The Normans.

Have you not seen Ironclad? It's the Saving Private Ryan of medieval combat.

You must hate Saving Private Ryan.

Ivanhoe. 1952, 1982,and 1997. I'm partial to the 1997 version myself. Also Richard III, I had to watch for a college History of Britain class, many moons ago.

Cornel Wilde's "Sword of Lancelot" has a pretty massive battle sequence, for 1963. It starts at about 2:00 in this bleeding chunk:

Not Medieval, but watch his "Naked Prey",if you've never seen it. Brutal.

The only medieval movie really worth the effort is Holy Grail…..RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY!

I would kill for a TV series about War of the Roses with the budget and acting of GoT.

Also as cheesy and inaccurate as it is, gotta love Braveheart.

The 2000's was a beautiful time for historical war movies. All we get now days is Star Wars sequels and Super Hero movies.

Kingdom of Heaven--the Directors Cut does a much better job of storytelling and filling in the holes than the original release. One of my very favorite movies.

For something similar to GOT but covering War of the Roses try the new BBC Hollow Crown serias.

Its the Bard's version – so plenty of fiction – but costuming and armor are good (better than GOT) but battles a bit small due to budget constraints.

I got Ironclad and watched it and I must say it's very bloody but I did like the film and it had a good cast as well.

A show that came on last year which was pretty good but not renewed for a second season was "The Bastard Executioner"…

maverick290911 Oct 2016 11:47 a.m. PST

TomT, I saw that one on Amazon prime and have been meaning to watch it. I'll have to give it a go!

Captain Gideon11 Oct 2016 3:34 p.m. PST

Stepman3 I was just talking to a friend of mine about The Bastard Executioner but I've not seen it myself.

The Court Jester (Danny Kaye) "The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true". But seriously, Alexander Nevski and the Warlord.

leidang14 Oct 2016 8:47 p.m. PST

Not exactly medieval but "Flesh and Blood" also titled "the sword & the Rose" is pretty good but it's a little later chronologically.
