Interesting how they see it… "It is heartwarming that despite all the politics behind the attempts to disregard the glory and contribution of fallen Soviet soldiers who died fighting against Nazi Germany, there are people in the West who acknowledge the real history and salute Russian men and women for their heroism during World War II. Many western leaders decided to boycott the Moscow Victory Day Parade on May 9 that commemorated the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany 70 years ago. Due to the crisis in Ukraine, political tensions between Russia and the West have deteriorated over the last year, reaching their lowest point since the end of the Cold War. Despite Western leaders' attempts to brush off historical facts and refuse to recognize the gigantic role of the Soviet Union in winning World War II, many Western readers have begun to call for an end to these lies and are paying proper tribute to the fallen Soviet soldiers, regardless of the current political tensions between Russia and the West…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

I don't know. Which of the enlisted men killed in front of Moscow was personally responsible for that? |

Sputnik news is a creation of the Russian government. Let's not confuse the perspective being presented here. This is a WW2 topic? |

> I don't know. Which of the enlisted men killed in front of Moscow was personally responsible for that? If your saying Stalin should have died there then I concede your point. |

I didn't say that at all, but I can't imagine the world would have been a worse place if he'd kicked the bucket during the war. Or before the war for that matter. |

Another indication of the interest Russia takes in its WW2 history: link Has anyone heard of the incident this article describes? |

Calculon I have read several versions of the Panfilov Story, all of them in Soviet or post Soviet Russian publications. From everything I have read it seems that there is some truth in the story, but like many events of the time the story has grown with the retelling. I would describe it as a Legend rather than a Myth. Personally I would like to see the movie, the Soviet army in WW II/GPW is a fascinating subject with little coverage in the West. As to the politics I can admire the courage and sacrifice of Soviet soldiers as much as I can admire German; or Japanese or Italian soldiers. Does this mean I condone or support the sins of their regimes of course not. Fatman |
