I do not think we have a specific Greek Board so I thought I might post this here.
I have a vague recollection of hearing in the dim and distant past of a street in Athens that was more or less dedicated to model shops. Does this ring any bells with anyone and if so, any ideas if any are still in business or has the crisis and Europe done for them?
Thanks
C

There is an article in Battlegames 16 (Jan/Feb 2009) about it. The street is called Ippokratous. 12 shops according to the article! Whether they all still exist, given the state of the Greek economy …

They still do exist (at least 8 of them on Ippokratous str.) while several are moved to the suburbs.

Ippokratous is a long street … are these shops nearer the University end or the Lykevitos end?

What's the best way to check the location of other shops? Sources in Greek are ok.

I was in Athens in October and walked up and down Ippokratous street, and there are indeed several modelling shops (and lots of book stores). I think I counted 5 different ones of various sizes and types, mostly focusing on plastic models, but also including one that was dedicated to rare and custom figure sets. There were a couple with closed windows or shuttered doors, probably victims of the the crisis, but all in all I think you could easily get your basic painting and modelling supplies there, and if you are a model builder then much more.
