I have just seen this on ebay – this is NOT me selling. I think it is a bargain for only £500.00 GBP

auction

description

Your chance to own one of eleven specially commissioned, fully working, scale models of the indefatigable built for the tv hornblower series this is a project and would need work to get it back to its former glory, She is 25ft long and 7ft 3" wide.
She comes with her own trolly but although light is bulky and will need a fair trailer or a truck to move
Im happy to assist with loading

Perhaps you could add an outside pool to the Shed….

Shipping to New Zealand would be a real Bleeped text. Also not sure it would fit in our rural delivery driver's van.

'Perhaps you could add an outside pool to the Shed…'

Was actually thinking the model would make a very cool shed in its own right

Sadly Mrs Shed would not be happy as I have filled up all the available space in the garden that I am allowed

A shame to see it in bit of a state. I would certainly lay down £500.00 GBP if I had the space and time to work on it. A great piece!!

Eric…..i too thought the same….what a cool shed…."yes sir, we have Napoleonic on the main gun deck, WWI on the quarterdeck, D&D on the Orlop…"

Zagloba01 Oct 2016 8:21 a.m. PST

Sadly Mrs Shed would not be happy as I have filled up all the available space in the garden that I am allowed

Then put it on top of the shed.

Hehehehe….

Sadly its not going to happen…hope it goes to a good home

"May not post to United States"

I'm crushed!

It's not all that expensive; if you restored it, you could probably make your money back displaying it at various shows around the country. Much better than making it into some sort of sign for a fish and chips restaurant.

maybe some other movie or tv company will pick it and fix it for another series, or a museum should pick it up.

Too bad they didn't keep on making that miniseries. I read that Ioan Gruffud was up for it.

I wish they had continued as well. Good production value.

You could probably sail it to New Zealand, it looks big enough.

That would make a fine back yard pirate ship for my son to play in.

attilathepun4702 Oct 2016 9:09 a.m. PST

Maybe Elon Musk will buy it. That way he could have a real space "ship" to attach to one of his rockets!

jhancock02 Oct 2016 9:57 a.m. PST

I wonder what the seller paid for it when he got the wind up his…? Looks like a real folly for any buyer without deep pockets and a large, covered space to store and work on it!

+1 Winston. I too loved the Hornblower series, even when the scriptwriters added material to "Hornblower and the Hotspur" which was not in the book. Always wanted to see him in Hornblower and the Atropos, as well as re-doing the film Peck did.

jowady02 Oct 2016 11:42 a.m. PST

There was a book out some years back on the making of these models as well as how they shot them( a "friend" borrowed it from me and I never got it back). IIRC the models were all made in Russia, most of the photography took place in the Crimea. BTW, I wish that they had done the entire series, of course I also wish that we would get more "Master and Commander" movies, which I understand that Russell Crowe is pushing for as well.

I would love to see a good production of the original trilogy of books to start the series, "Beat to Quarters", "Ship of the Line", and "The Happy Return" (one or two of the books has a different title in the UK). The Peck version is okay but to try to do all three books in one film meant that too much stuff was left out. I still enjoy the battle scene against the Natividad though.

I have the making of book. It's excellent. Now I'll have to pull it out to take a look.

capncarp02 Oct 2016 11:01 p.m. PST

Looks to be about 1/6th scale. Break out the GI Joes and start making slops out of cloth scraps, lads!

45thdiv04 Oct 2016 3:53 a.m. PST

Well, I guess it's heading to the fire soon. It did not sell. Sad that no one in the UK wanted it.

Sail it, you ruddy landlubber! That's what Horny would have done!

Mad Guru05 Oct 2016 10:35 p.m. PST

Interesting development: it appears the seller relisted the unsold item and raised the starting auction price by 100 GBP -- instead of £500.00 GBP, it's now £600.00 GBP

auction

Not sure I comprehend the business plan, but as others have said above, I hope someone buys it and gives it a good home, be it on land, sea, or pond.
