Following up on my first attempts at 3d printing on our new printer at work TMP link I downloaded a werewolf form Thingiverse.com. This figure is a sample of a new line being Kickstarted by Printable Armies link The figure is about 1.25 inches tall and was printed at normal quality. It took about 1.5 hours. At the rate we are charging, 5 cents a gram, it costs around 25 cents
Overall I am pleased with the quality. I will try to slap some paint on it tomorrow and post it up so you can see the final product. The cost of the kickstarter is a bit high for me just to dive in, but they allude to expanding their ranges to historical figures if this one is successful. Anyone else thinking about plastic horses? |

1.5 hours! "Time is Money" …or so some people say… |

The time factor is a major reason I don't think 3D printing will survive in the mainstream as anything more than a curiosity. |

Except that you just walk away while it is printing. I routinely do big batches over a week or two just by setting up prints and walking away and coming back when I get time. 3D printing is best when it's just for you. If I need a batch of 40 of these guys, sure, that's 60 hours, but if you do them over time, just checking your printer when you get around to it, you'll have that unit in a couple of weeks, less if you are around at home doing more on weekends. |

I think it's a nice looking figure. |

Can't these be ganged, to print more than one at a time? |

Yes, you can print multiplies at one time to cut down the time per figure. The Prusa i3 Mk2 is acutally coming out with a kit that makes it a quad extruder that reportedly has the ability to be printing four copies at once. |

Personally, I don't see printing time as a real issue. Set the print run, head off to work, and come back from work with models ready to paint! |

Kind of hard to make out the detail with the white plastic and the lighting. Looking forward to seeing the painted version to get a better idea. |

Looks quite nice but it is always difficult to make out detail on a plain white plastic or metal miniature. It will be interesting to see that painted. Any chance of you slapping a dark stain or undercoat and white overbrush on? |

I have a base coat of grey on it now. I will post something this evening when I get home. |

You can use 3D printing to create your "master" , they mass produce using traditional casting . |
