I've got a unit of american dragoons wearing the said headgear instead of tarletons, can I paint them as any continental unit since there was great "hat freedom" apparently or just paint them as militia? |

It's not so much "gat freedom" as "coat freedom". Hats are very expensive to supply, and replace. Coats not so much. I made a beautiful unit if Philadelphia Assiciators from Firing Line, a now extinct company. It had separate heads. I thought I was being clever by using several different heads. In retrospect, I consider that a mistake. |

You could paint them as loyalists – for example, the East Florida Rangers who are thought to have worn floppy hats: link Or on the patriot side there are South Carolina state and militia cavalry units that are thought to have worn hats (and other helmets): link link Giles |
