Neat stuff Armand, seen that movie in the original theater and maybe 50 times since. (always wondered about the Shermans, will look closer next time)

I could swear I see the later Shermans being pulled by a cable when they first start up for the battle.

I'm still amazed this movie was completely ignored by the Oscars.

I wish someone would release the extended TV version on disc.

Lots of deleted scenes there, I think almost 30 minutes of extra footage.

When I saw it in the theater, many, maybe most,in the audience were clearly surprised and dissapointed by the ending. Obviously not wargamers. Or history readers.

About the only thing that bothered me was the fact that Joseph E. Levied decided to make a "hey there!" movie, like The Longest Day. "Hey there,it's Robert Redford!" "Hey there,it's James Caan!" "Gene Hackman!" "Terry Thomas!". It got to be a little much. I tried to take it for what it was. Except for Ryan O'Neal. Never cared for him.

But I can put up with a lot for a WWII movie. And yes, I'd also welcome an extended version.

Just read a book by a British Sherman troop leader who was at Horrocks' briefing and said it was just like in the film.

One of my favourites, though I try to space out viewings so I don't over-do it. The sense of exhaustion as the battle wound down to its end was really well done.

And there's a certain satisfaction to seeing Cliffy take it between the eyes…

Yes, I very much enjoyed the film. And from what I know it was pretty accurate.

wrgmr129 Sep 2016 8:51 a.m. PST

One of my favourites as well. Interesting trivia, thanks Armand.

The book is even better! Though I enjoyed the movie immensely! I appreciated that they at least made an effort to make the German vehicles look the part.

Glad you enjoyed it my friend!. (smile)

My favourite WW2 movie, mabye my favourite war move. It has a scope modern war movies and series don't have (like SPR, BOB, pacific ect)

I do hope the Dunkirk movie will be more like longest day and brigde too far.

The movie starts off poorly "1944 and the war was going Hitler's way until d-day", conveniently forgetting the Germans had been kicked out of North Africa, Sicily, were retreating in Italy and were getting clobbered/were reeling in the USSR. Fortunately it gets better after that and is one of my favorite movies.
