Just curious if there is a good, on-line source for RAF Bomber Command air raid statistics in WWII? Looking for details of losses (usually given), as well as those damaged on the various raids. Additional breakdowns for bomber types on the raids, aborts, those reaching the target (very hard to determine at night, back in WWII, effectively), etc., would also be very helpful. I'm especially interested in the major bombing campaigns against Hamburg, the Ruhr, and Berlin. Failing that, if someone can recommend a decent book that includes the above, and/or has an analysis of the RAF's bombing effectiveness in WWII, that would be helpful too. I seem to recall mention that was eventually completed, but not until the 1960's, if I remember correctly. |

Operational Research in the RAF, Air Ministry, Air Publication 3368, HMSO, 1963 has a graph on page 56 – "Accuracy of night bombing of German Cities (excluding Berlin)" from January 1942 to April 1945 based on photographic evidence – despatched sorties which bomb within 3 miles of the target in good or moderate weather. |

If you haven't already got hold of it I recommend The Berlin Raids by Martin Middlebrook. link The author has a number of other titles on this subject. |

Thanks for the links, tips, and recommendations. I really appreciate them. I have read his book, and have it in my library. A great account of the various raids. |

link This games company has a number of titles on this topic and their historical notes and other pdfs were useful to me. The usual caveat that it is a game system and not a historical account applies. But is was helpful to me anyway. Fascinating topic this. Look forward to seeing what you end up with. |
