Hi
I'm converting a Fire and Fury Scenario to Black Powder.
How does this look ?
I have given the Confederates a Divisional General Holmes.
Beauregard takes command of another "Division"
The Union have more commanders in this case and a CinC , but the Confederates lack a CinC.
I have rated all the commanders faiely low , with a command of 7 , which will make it too hard ?
Anyway if you have the FnF scenario book "Great Eastern Battles" you will see the timing of the arrivals etc , it looks lie it will be interesting.

But I'm open to suggestions on the ratings etc.

Thanks , here it is.

Gee, that's a lot of guns. Having read through the Black Powder forum on Warlords, I see many people warning that guns are very powerful. It might be better to have each battery be one gun?

olicana27 Sep 2016 4:40 a.m. PST

Or count as one gun. I know a lot of players use two gun (played as one) batteries because one gun on its own always looks a bit pathetic, a bit like one rank infantry units.

Looks good

I would play with each battery as a single gun

Keithandor27 Sep 2016 6:24 p.m. PST

Yes thanks
I'm going to bump all command ratings up by one.
The 4 Gun Batteries are just single guns in black powder.

Updated with higher command ratings.

I would rate most of the troops as raw/green/whatever. Jackson's brigade would be regular.
At this battle most higher officers reverted to being colonels, leading individual regiments into combat. It was nearly impossible to get brigades going forward in unison. Joe Johnston was the only one who acted like a general. He stayed back and ordered units into the fray as they arrived.

Unless regular refers to size rather than morale/training. I sold my copy of BP a while back.

Keithandor29 Sep 2016 3:28 p.m. PST

Ok thanks , yeah the regular refers to the size in my OOB.
I have made Jackson's brigade large and stubborn.
Some others are stubborn or steady.

Hi all
Here is the latest version after a bit of play test and some more research.
Victory
1) Break 2 out of 3 enemy brigades
2) Capture Henry Hill
Both must be achieved , Otherwise a Draw.

The Confederates are lacking an overall commander , which will make their defence a bit more disorganised.
The Union commanders need to take Henry Hill for victory so they will have their work cut out for them , if Jackson's brigade gets up on the hill in time they will be hard to shift.

Note: Evans starts on table in and is in command until Johnston and
Beauregard arrive at 11:30 at E
Evans then reverts to command of his own Division.
Not totally historical , but Evans did command the early part of the confederate defence.
"he was the first Confederate field commander to perceive the Union intent to attack the Confederate left flank at dawn. His command went far toward saving the day for the South. During the thick of the fight, he was everywhere, closely followed by an aide carrying his "barrelito" (small barrel) of Evans' favorite whiskey on his back."

The union highwater mark.
Jackson stands on Henry hill.
The union brigades are shaken , the attack has stalled.
A close run thing.

Id definately go with 1 Artillery unit= Battery. We also use 2 gun units because that makes them the correct width compared to the infantry units.

We play 10mm, on 30mm bases, subbing cm for inches. So a standard Infantry unit is 12cm frontage, battery is 6cm (and gets 1-2-3 dice) I find its safe to assume 1mm=yard. For our WSS we assume 1mm=1 pace (ie about 86%!). This means you can give the order 'historically' – "The entire brigade will advance 120 paces/yards" rather than "12 cm"

Good start… I copied the "latest" OB and will plan on re-fighting the scenario soon..

Thanks
