On Sunday we started a scenario based around the first use of tanks at Flers using Great War Spearhead 2. We got around halfway through and hope to finish it another time

Beautiful!

I assume this is 6mm.

Are the figures Baccus and Tanks R+H?

monk2002uk28 Sep 2016 1:21 p.m. PST

Yes, the Navwar (Heroics and Ros) tanks are the Mk1 variant with the 'steering' wheels. Infantry and guns are Baccus.

Super job, pt. My Grandfather was with the NZ Division but he arrived in France after this battle, being wounded in one of the last actions of the Division in the Somme campaign before it was closed.

Wonderful

Thanks Monk

I purchased the same except the later MKV/V*/Whippet etc almost a year ago at Warfare with the intention of looking at the 100 days and possible 1919 offensives.

Hopefully this will inspire me enough to actually base, paint and play.

What base size have you used?

I note 4 figures per infantry base are used.

Is this a Spearhead basic as I was looking at 3 to 6.

Your site is now bookmarked

Thanks

Oh no, I can't claim credit for Pushing Tin's super website and write-up. Happy to reply to your question though as I can tell what PT has used.

My humble contribution is here:

Base size is normally 30 x 30 mm or 1 1/4 inch square. My preference is for 3 (Irregular Miniatures) or 4 (Baccus) infantry figures for a standard base, 4 or 5 respectively for command stands. There is no fixed 'basic' on this though. My preference was driven more by the desire to get as many stands up as possible. Once you have a corps on table, the number of stands becomes impressive in its own right.

Yes, as Robert says, I've used standard GWSH 30x30mm/1 1/4x1 1/4" bases. The 4 figures to a base is basically how the Baccus Division and corps packs work out. It makes it incredibly quick to assemble a viable force and once on the table they look about right in terms of numbers etc.

For machine guns I leave them on the round base they come on, and also base artillery and mortars on smaller round bases, to make it easier to place them in weapons pits. My weapons pits are standard base size (30x30mm). If out in the open I simply place them on top of a standard base.

Nice idea with the artillery and mortars. I also play FOs on smaller bases too. Makes them easier to find.

Yes,

I put FOs as a single figure on the head of a drawing pin with the pin part cut off – although I think this may be a bit too small as I subsequently lost one on the board somewhere!

monk2002uk30 Sep 2016 3:04 a.m. PST

I use the ultra thin Litko plywood bases, which are easy to cut into quarters. This provides 4 15 x 15mm bases for FOs, which (touch plywood) has worked well so far.

Lovely work. Especially the FE2. An ignominious end that will live on in the memory.
