Looking for a goid game for my iPad. Prefer no wifi so I can play on pkanes etc. And no in app purchase style games. Just want to pay and play.

Open to any historical suggestions.

Try Ultimate General Gettysburg.

Heroes of Normandie, Battle Academy, and Battlelore Command. The first and last are board games. All can be played over the internet against opponents on other platforms if you have an internet connection. If you don't, they all have campaign games to play solo against the AI.

My son really enjoys Battle Academy. I like Battle of the Bulge. And for a real old school experience, pick up the port of Avalon Hill's Titan.

Another vote for Heroes of Normandie…its a good adaption of the excellent boardgame.

I play Great Big Wargame quite a bit and it still amuses me.

I highly recommend ultimate general Gettysburg

Another vote for Ultimate General.
Less time, but more cartoon, War of Empires.

WIFI- no in app purchases, last I saw: Galaxy on Fire.
A game you can continue to play and develope your skills (rather than how much you spend to win): World of Tanks. Usually 6 minutes a game, random 7 a side, although you can team up with 1 other player (please suspend reality….)

Get some kindle books for the plane flight, Guttenberg Press for free historical stuff.
What…anyway what's the longest flight that you have to make anyway?

Trenches II little Cartoony but good feel for WW1 gaming

Too bad you're only looking for historicals, because XCOM and Starbase Orion are excellent. TerraGenesis is a fabulous terraforming game.

For historicals, you could also consider Civilization and Ace Patrol.

Battle Academy.

Slitherine titles in general

Pike and Shot Campaigns

Battle Academy

Sid Meiers' Ace Patrol and the WWII version whose title escapes me.

Ultimate General Gettysburg (I only have the PC version)

Hexwar titles – Fire and Fury ECW and Peninsular War.

Twilight Struggle is a great interpretation of the boardgame. Win the Cold War without starting a atomic war !
