Excuse my ignorance here.

I understand Tedischi as a term used for Germans by Italians.

But if I were talking about Tedischi German Infrantrymen, would I be simply referring to standard Heer or some specialist units?

The correct term is "Tedeschi". It is the italian word for Germans. It came from the corruption of the german word Deutsch. "Tedeschi German" is meaningless, the two words meaning the same thing.

Tedeschi means Germans.

IIRC, "Tedeschi" comes from the same root as "Deutsch" and "Dutch". Germany gets its names in various languages from a lot of the tribes that the Romans and their successors went against. "Allemagne" in French from the Allemans, "Germany" in English from the Germanii, etc. Aren't we lucky that most everyone agrees to call the lands of our ancestors "Land of the Angles" and "Land of the Franks" in most languages?
