Last night, our second game in the campaign was the result of US forces trying to push around the German defence of La Haye Besat by moving further to the south and attacking through the fields. Unfortunately the Germans had moved up Fallschirmjäger to cover the flank of the village defence and they met the advancing US forces among the patchwork of fields. The Germans had all the luck in this battle – from a fortunate initial roll for the advanced party, to a recce grouo that managed to avoid injury while despatching all attackers, to the US suffering such poor reinforcement rolls, that their almost 3 to 1 superiority in troops never played a part as their army arrived in such a piecemeal fashion.

It all went wrong for the US from the start. Their flanking recce group was obliterated to a man, while the huge mass of the main force was held up and shot to pieces by a handful of Fallschirmjäger and a cunningly placed Preregistered Target Point that allowed two batteries of supporting 80mm mortars to slam into the US troops every turn.

In the end, the US managed to lose by both exceeding their Battle Rating and losing to an all objectives secured victory in the same turn. Coupled with the amazingly light German losses, this game was a major German victory, securing a full three campaign points and a 10% troop bonus for the next game, which is just as well as it looks like the Germans are going on the offensive…

Beautiful figures and terrain, well done!
Looks like a fun game too!

Wow, that´s gorgeous! It must have been great to play in a game like that. A pity the game wasn´t more competitive, but with this table who cares? The photography is also nicely done. thumbs up

Once again, this game is a visual stunner. The figures are superbly painted and the terrain is diorama-like. I love seeing your AARs. Keep 'em coming.

Othra,

I wouldn't use 28mm… Use 20mm like me…

Is the blue building a house, a church, a barn? or what?

PiersBrand26 Sep 2016 10:11 a.m. PST

Its a building that's blue… :)

Col Durnford26 Sep 2016 10:17 a.m. PST

In 20mm, even more impressive.

andresf26 Sep 2016 4:39 p.m. PST

This is beautiful. By now I've seen enough pics by PiersBrand to know he is a master. It's telling that a couple of us thought these were 28mm!

PiersBrand27 Sep 2016 1:10 a.m. PST

Thank you Andresf… No master, just an enthusiastic amateur!

Skarper27 Sep 2016 7:17 a.m. PST

I think 20mm can be better than 28mm for detail and animation. If well painted they stand comparison with the best of 28mm.

And you can get affordable vehicles and many more types are available.

Well done again Piers, another tour de force.

Nice to see the Yanks were 'spanked' on this outing. Some of the earlier game write ups it was the Krauts who go crunched.

Inevitably in a smallish scenario an early lucky dice roll or cunning plan that bears fruit can escalate and have a cascade effect. It's not impossible to recover but it is hard. I don't think it's a fault with the rules or scenario if this happens sometimes.

Indeed… War ain't fair or balanced Skarper! :)
