I'm trying to find Orders of Battle for the BAOR in the 80s. I have several that list divisions and brigades but none that say what units were in which brigade. In particular I want to know where the Sherwood Foresters were from 82-85. Closest I can pin them is in 1989, part of the 1st Army. Designated as Corps battalion. This leads to my next question. What was a corps battalion. Was it light role? Mechanized? Just used for HQ defense? |

The book you need is 'The British Army in Germany (BAOR and After): An Organisational History 1947-2004' by Watson and Rinaldi. 1st Battalion Worcestershire & Sherwood Foresters was based at Hemer as part of 6th Armoured (6th Airmobile from Nov 1983) until October 1984. Not sure of its whereabouts thereafter – probably rotated back to UK – but you could try looking for a list of units by deployment e.g. NI or HK. sabresquadron.com/index.html |
