Here's a good article with great pics, and an interesting take on how difficult it may be to target Chinese forces on their manmade islands in the SCS: link With mobile missile launchers, and a lot of land to move them around on, it seems as if the task of neutralizing them may be more difficult than some expect, should that need to be accomplished in the future. Many of the islands are surprisingly large. |

Won't a good typhoon wash them away? |

Typhoons like the Haiyan will damage surface structures and swamp the islands temporarily. I suspect the cunning Chinese engineers have allowed for that and while there would be damage the islands will endure. Tsunamis are unlikely in the area, but not impossible. What you do get with big Typhoons is a storm surge that looks, feels and behaves much like a small Tsunami. But again – likely allowed for in the design. The Chinese have been playing possum on this issue due to the summit in China and also the recent ASEAN meeting. Now they are liable to wake up. Expect major events in the coming weeks. |

A few MOABs* should do the trick. MOAB = Mother Of All Beachparties. A few spring break open container outings and they will be trashed beyond usability. |

Reminds me a bit of Tarawa in WWII; shells bounced off of the island |

It's amazing what a few thousand cluster bombs can do. |

Small problem with China's artificial islands… THEY DON'T MOVE. If, God forbid things go pear shaped, those wonderful islands will become magnets for every SLCM in range. And their military value will drop to ZERO. Obviously NO ONE has twigged to the fact their value is NOT in some upcoming war. Their value is in PEACE time as a means of expanding China's influence over the South China Sea. If shooting starts, China's artificial island fortresses will have FAILED in their purpose… |

It builds quite an extended wall out into the offshore area should things get even mushier in North Korea. Would help build a larger buffer if they need to step in with "assistance". |
