WRG 1950 – 1985, and available as a PDF on-line, for free. No logarithmic weapons range compression, and seems to be pretty simple, but with enough tactical nuances to keep things interesting. |

Sabre Squadron is a good set of 1:1 and over on the Wargames Guild there has been work on adapting BattleGroup Commander rules, Tally Ho! |

There is us :- link Its playable at company to company battle group level. We have used it at Battalion level but the decisions get hard. I have the draft 1985 lists (Team Yankee) period finished and just have to do a simple cover hope to be out next week. But you can generate your own lists and specs as it tell you how, The game is scenario driven not points system driven. Its 1:1 for vehicles and fire teams for infantry. Optimized for one player aside as the rules are simple but the game can be complex. As its aimed at plausible scenarios, typically sides would be a Platoon to a company Battle group for the largest side with some experience. Playable in 1/72 25mm, 1/144 (12 mm) and with effort 1/300 6mm. It is definitely different to the ones above using quite different mechanisms. Its definitely a painless simulation so no stupid "Hollwood" mechanisms which you either love or hate. I always suggest you load Bulletin 1 (free). If that is too much detail (Hull down, Turret Down, hide positions) its not for you. link |

Tank Wreck! and Dunn Kempf American Army Training rules. The latter based on WRG and I just used 1d6 (many random rolls are 1d6 followed by 1d6, but I just ignored the second d6). |

FFT for lots of figures and my own No End in Sight for platoon skirmishes. I own Modern Spearhead too but for some silly reason I don't know if we ever played it, even though we played the ww2 rules quite a bit. |

My group uses Battlefront WW2 rules modified for moderns. The website has the rules and a forum that supports the modified rules. We have used it for Vietnam, Six Day War, and now the Cold War. It works really well, goes fast and bloody. |

Nick B; You can find a copy of these rules entitled "Able Archer" on Cold War Gamer, Blogspot. com. This is a great site for this period. |

Cold War Commander for us. Tried Fistful of TOWs, but ultimately liked CWC better. At a lower level, Force on Force is a lot of fun. |

Sabre Squadron is good. However, with tank guns or ATGM's one hit = one kill. Maybe realistic (?) but not as much fun. |
nickinsomerset | 09 Oct 2016 6:50 a.m. PST |
Neli a quick method to deal with that for smaller games is either a % or 10 sided dice to give a chance at various ranges of a deflection, i.e at under 1/2 range a 5% chance of a deflection, whilst at long range a 50% chance of hitting a bin/OMD80 tin etc. One could go the route of Panzermarch allocating hits to sights, antenna, turret ring jam, tracks etc. Tally Ho! |
