Based on their successful and well-received Dungeon Saga, Mantic Games is taking the lessons learned from that effort and applying them to a sci-fi dungeon-crawl called Star Saga. More info is available here: manticblog.com

The Kickstarter launches on 9/26. Personally, having missed the Dungeon Saga KS and bought it afterwards, I'm impressed enough with Mantic's work that I'll be backing this KS. It sounds like the game will be somewhat Space Hulk-ish, with one player controlling all the bad guys and the other players fighting their way through the tight confines of a ship or space station. Has that trope been done to death? Yes. Is there still room for someone else to do it and do it well? In my opinion, there is.

Thanks,
jav98

No problem here with yet another SF gun-crawl. If the figs are cool, I'll snag some. If it's just decent rules and cool tiles, I'll grab them off eBay.

I understand employing figs from the existing ranges but it would be nice to see some unique to the game. Particularly some specialists, character-leaders, or have noncom science types to escort/rescue.

Based on their disappointing previous Space Hulkish sci-fi board game 'Project Pandora' (in terms of both gameplay and product quality, plus it wasn't cheap either) I'll have to wait and see the finished product first before committing the cash.

Based on the promise of products made during dungeon saga, then pulled back after kickstarter closed, and the poorly edited rules books, I will spend my money elsewhere.

Based on mantic being Bleeped texts and me no longer trading with them, I have to pass

Ah Mantic, the poor man's GW! 8)=

Not to mention the smart rich man's GW. With eBay's flash sales (see BGG Hot Deals), I picked up their KoW Undead Starter set. The details are *very* good yet this set is *very* affordable. Same went for the previous two-player Battle Set. (Meanwhile, the GW paint set released in 2016 had dry sludgy paints. At least Warhammer Quest is selling at 1/2 off on eBay.)

Also not backing until Mantic can do a KS that doesn't disappoint.

I loved "Mars Attacks!". Fun game, great miniatures and terrain, great value.

Delighted with Mantics figures over 3 Kickstarters and their customer service to myself has been exemplary, so I too will be looking forward to a new variety of figures to add to the millions of grunts that I seem to have lol.

Backed several of their kickstarters though chances are good that I will pass on this one.

Will take a look but need to cut back on the kickstarters for now.

Only bad part was the Companions books for Dungeon Saga.

They did hosed that one up.

Not really interested in them, but even if I were, their US pricing policy would put me off of that.

Mithmee23 Sep 2016 1:19 p.m. PST

Mako,

I have gone through Amazon before on getting on of their stuff.

Prices were not that bad and far cheaper than that other company.

Oh and they sent me another Email about this which had some pictures of several miniatures.

I will have to be strong but those miniatures were looking petty good.

The 3D sculpts are generally pretty good but quite often the vinyl physical product isn't so good. I'm looking at you Mars Attacks civilians.

But no, I want to like Mantic. I carry their games in my store. Dwarf King's Hold, Mars Attacks, Dreadball, and Deadzone haven't moved at all for me but Kings of War does well. I think if Warpath had gotten more support it would have done better. I hope the new skirmish rules are at least as good as the old ones, which we had a lot of fun with, were.

What I want is more support for existing games, not more Kickstarter sprees.
but on

Project Pandora was terrible, IMHO, with some of the worst production value/components for its price…. However, Deadzone and DungeonSaga have shown real improvement. Despite the hideous vinyl/resin and sometimes bloated prices (mind you much better than GW, but for inferior product), Mantic is carving a niche for themselves. I will certainly be picking up a copy of star saga when it hits retail, and give it a spin.

But they seem to support nothing.
