I mount all my historical figures on MDF bases and finish them off with magnetic paper and then use metal lined boxes for storage Fantasy figures on slotta or similar plastic bases pose a problem for this system as the magnetic paper does not really have much to stick to. I presume the answer is to fill the underside of the base – what do people use to do this? I am UK based |

I have glued 25mm round slotta bases to 1 inch fender washers in the past. The ones I use fit almost perfectly. I then line a scrapbooking box with metal sheet and the figures hold up just fine |

Dave I cut thin plasticard to the same dimensions as the slottabase, glue in place and add a layer of steel paper or magnetic tape as required. Jim |

Where do you get your plasticard from Jim? |

The internet, usually eBay, sometimes direct from a supplier, occasionally Wonderland in Edinburgh. |

What thickness would you use? |

A variety but 1mm is about best for most things. I also use foamboard which is similar but different. Will you be at Skelp? |
Dave Knight | 21 Sep 2016 1:54 p.m. PST |
No I won't make Skelp but should get to Targe |

I'll bring you a sample of the various plastic sheets that I use. |

I might just go for some 1mm sheets as they seem pretty reasonable on the link that you sent me |

I presume the answer is to fill the underside of the base – what do people use to do this? Plaster works fine, gives you a flat surface for magnets or FlexSteel (Litko). |

I found it easier to reverse the whole process. I complete my bases with stamped sheet metal, and use magnetic sign sheeting to cut out movement trays. That way, my trays flex and mold to the terrain they're going over. |

I used to magnetise the slota bases no problem. For the bases without a slot (solid top, figure glued to top of base) still no problem. I think the adhesive of the magnetic material and painting the bases worked fine. |
