I know that Pulp Figures does a not Doc Savage, DC Thompson set of figures. They were one of the first things I ever purchased from Pulp Figures. My thing is that I prefer the Doc Savage of the pulp magazines rather than the James Bama version. Basically the Doc I want is a normal looking guy in a suit or typical clothing. The problem I am having is finding a figure to use. Doc should be bigger than his aides and that is where the issue lies. I can't find a larger scale figure in 1930s or 40s attire. Does anyone do civilians or gangsters in larger 33 to 35 mm scale? I found a set of Superfigs civilians with a walking figure in a suit. I was thinking about that. If possible a figure without a weapon would be the best to save conversion time. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. |

I always thought Doc's wardrobe only contained torn and shreded shirts. How else would anyone recognize him? |

I have never seen a Doc Savage pulp magazine cover where he wears a suit. He is almost always shirtless or in a torn white shirt. The shirtless figure in Murch's Pulp Heroes and Personalities set would be the figure that I would use. Paint his hair a reddish brown and I believe that he would be perfect. |

Everyone tends to think of Doc Savage as the ripped shirt guy on the covers of the Bantam reprints and even the new, Wild Adventures of Doc Savage. While Doc did sport a ripped shirt or even shirtless in the original pulp covers, it wasn't always the case. A lot of the covers are either ripped, shirtless, or just a short sleeved shirt but there are a few suits mixed in. They seem the most seen in the later years.
I guess my thing isn't that the current figure isn't good, I have it painted up more towards the original pulp than the Bantam reprint images. Reddish brown hair, more of a normal skin tone, slightly tan.
I'm not partial to the Monk figure carrying the pig Habeas Corpus either. Maybe I'm just partial to a more typical Doc and crew. Of course the ripped shirt Doc is a lot better, at least in my opinion, than the old Marvel comic version:

>>A lot of the covers are either ripped, shirtless, or just a short sleeved shirt but there are a few suits mixed in. They seem the most seen in the later years.<< My original pulp magazine collection was mostly from the 1930's, so Doc, on most of the covers that I am familiar with, wore a plain white shirt, or no shirt at all. I've seen the Bama covers of course, but I only own "The Man OF Bronze", which was the first Bantam Doc. >>I'm not partial to the Monk figure carrying the pig Habeas Corpus either.<< LOL. Neither am I. And I have no idea who the guy in the straw hat is supposed to represent. Anyway, good luck, and I hope that you find what you're looking for. :-) |

I started reading Doc Savage with the WW2 era Bantam reprints. Then I went back and read some of the others. I think I found a figrue that I want to use. Will require a bit of conversion though.
Eventually I should get it done. Thanks all! |

Which figure? With exception of Weird Tales, I didn't collect any pulps after they started to soften their cover images in the late 1930's, and their digest size and artwork really turned me off. |

It is actually the D.A. Denton figure from Pulp Alley. I am looking at doing a head swap with the Doc figure (or another head without a hat). The SMG comes separate from the figure so I will just replace that with another spare hand I have around. I like the size of the figure itself. He seems to me a bit "larger than life." I have picked up a couple of original pulps but not many. Between the cost now and the fact that they are slowly turning to dust it just wasn't worth it.
I have picked up some of the various magazine size reprints though. |
