"Just over one hundred years ago, in 1901, John Holland Rose
published an article entitled'A British Agent at Tilsit' in theEnglish Historical Review. In this article, Rose argued that the socalled'secret intelligence from Tilsit' was transmitted to the British government in 1807 by a British agent called Mr. Mackenzie. Subsequent research has shown that Rose was mistaken, but Mackenzie's activities contain other points of interest.
