Hello, I am interested in purchasing this original work (and realize that I might be creating competition), but my question is regarding it's subject.

It is identified as the 3rd Guard Lancers 1812. I have looked up my source books and see nothing similar in 1812, although in 1814 it does appear to be the 3rd Lancers.

Thank you!

Well he is 3rd Guard indeed. At first glance he looks like a Polish lancer, but of course buttons, lace etc all yellow/brass not white/silver.

His lance pennant seems upside down though. I think Poles (1st and 3rd) showed facing coloured lace when lapels worn open, unlike the 2nd. In other words the lapels on the kurtka should be edged yellow

Their "moment in history", which they would rather forget was indeed 1812, October. After that the survivors were reassigned it seems.

A final thought…….this is surely a print, not an original painting, as I am sure you will realise (apologies if you did so, but just a word of caution!) I know what the blurb says but……..

thank you appreciate your time and effort, I was looking in the Histoire and Collections Volume 4 Guard Cavalry and it was listed as 3rd Eclaireurs (sp) and formed in 1814. That was my confusion.

No, third Eclaireurs are much more like 1st Poles. White lace and silver metalwork, but with that odd striped belt, less around the shoulders (ie no fringed epaulettes and aigulettes) and no lance pennon
