Armenia is next in the series of eastern enemies of the Severan period. These were interesting games in which Armenia made use of an allied contingent.

Next week, Parthia.

Lovely games, Robert. Maybe the Armenians needed to do more wide flanking with Light Horse!

I recall (I'm 65), an old Sword and Sandal movie from te late 50s or early 60s, that actually had the Romans fighting in Armenia. I think the star was Jeff Chandler.

Durban Gamer,

I like using light horse to wide flanking moves, but there are times when LH is best kept close as a reserve.
When the enemy is strong in blade or spear and the terrain placement require an exceptionally high usage of pips to circumvent.

I have just play tested the revised campaign rule set using Alani as the invader against the Kingdom of Bosporus. The Alani LH were in their element.

nnascati,

I have seen a lot of Italian Sword and Sandal films including a number of Greek, Romanian and Bulgarian productions but I do not recall seeing one with Jeff Chandler.

I do recall the "Fall of the Roman Empire" with Stephen Boyd as a Roman fighting against Armenians and Persians in that 60's film.

I may be wrong about Jeff Chandler, but it definitely was not a big budget film like "Fall".

nnascati,

Jeff Chandler in Sign of the Pagan. Enemy was Attila the Hun and it involved some convoluted plot about a conspiracy between the Byzantine Emperor and Attila to overthrow the Western Empire. Don't think the battles took place in Armenia though
