Surprised nobody else caught this! However, today is the Anniversary of the first tanks entering combat!

Heard it on NPR this morning…on the BBC News Hour actually. They even featured some recorded interviews one from a tank driver and one from a member of the opposition. Quite fascinating really.

The tank is dead.

Long live the tank.

Noticed when World of Tanks did a promotion. They've come a long way and yet, in a way, the basics are remarkably similar :)

Listening to the BBC program was a treat. In some ways things have advanced so much, yet in others, still much the same.

THREADHEADS!!!!!

Yes, no matter what, you still have to replace track shoes and repair broken tracks. In the rain … wink

Thanks Nashville. Like the article.

Not if you pick the "right theater" for combat, I suspect, Legion.

What if their original code name wasn't "tank", but, let's say was "butterfly" instead….

Mako,

wheel replacement, track bashing and pack changes can only be carried out in the rain or snow, it is the law!

Tally Ho!

Wasn't GW1 the biggest tank battle in history?

I don't think so … I think maybe Arab-Israeli War in '73 ? Nope … I should have gone with my first choice – Kursk !! Arab-Israeli '73 only came in 7th, out of the top 10 Big Tank Battles, according to this link

Which sounds pretty darn accurate to me …

I wish we could pick the theater ! But regardless, it's either too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry, too many rocks, too muddy, too much snow, too much sand, too many streams and rivers, etc., etc. ! The best place is in the Motor Pool inside a covered bay. But that does not always happen … sadly … frown
