Several 18thC gamers are touring 18thC battlefields in Germany. I and a couple friends will also then be going to Namur and Brussels for several days. Are there any wargame groups in the area? We'll be visiting Fontenoy and maybe Oudenarde. Are there any other small museums or fields worth the trip that don't appear on a web search – Laffeldt, Ramillies, Malplaquet?? I have looked at usual stuff on the internet.

Right after I posted this topic, I looked in my collection to find Falkner's books on Ramillies and his Guide to Marlborough's Battlefields! He gives an excellent walking/driving tour of Ramillies, Oudenarde and Malplaquet. I'd still be interested in any off the radar museums.

Both Ramillies and Malplaquet are well worth visiting, still a lot to see if you know what you are looking for. Sadly, the museum in Bavay which was a tremendous collection of the life's work of a local enthusiast,Arthur Barbera, is now closed, following his untimely death a few years ago. Ramillies must be seen now, because ribbon development along the roads is well on the way to obscuring lines of sight across the field. Enjoy your trip!

I can recommend a visit to Ramillies, but make sure that you have a decent map. There are some information boards, but most of it you have to work out for yourself. Beware of tractors.

We have the Ramillies guide books by Falkner, but they are a decade old. The 2014 Osprey by McNally has quite a few good photos. I am using Google Earth like everyone else.
I'll take some photos so we can compare to the ones in the 2006 Falkner book.
