What topics are the most likely to spawn a sprawling mega-thread?

*Anything involving Napoleon
*Anything involving women
*Anything involving the Confederacy
*Points values, Jesus or Satan?
*TMP policy.
*Kids these days/people are too easily offended/people are not offended enough.

Your suggestions?

I picked 150 since gaming topics rarely reach that many.

Apparently gaming the '98 with TSATF is as non-controversial as you can get. If a report runs to 8 posts, it consists of epturner and I talking to each other. grin

Napoleonic Women who moved to America and joined the Confederacy to do needlepoint. (Edit): Aaand had kids that got offended/not offended enough by TMP Policy.

Edit: Hey! You keep adding catagories! No fair!

2nd Edit: Duly amended.

Related to that, "Move Historicon back to Pennsylvania."

Should women be allowed to even THINK about wargaming? (With the exception of buying stuff for boyfriends, or making cookies.)

Should women be allowed to serve in X branch of the military?

Hafen von Schlockenberg15 Sep 2016 10:52 a.m. PST

That's in the OP. As are two of David Manley's.

Ooh! "Nitpicking"!

Edit: Oops. Covered under "Napoleon".

2nd Edit: If anyone's wondering why I didn't nitpick DM'S "Bill's latest rules changes",the OP Weaseled "TMP Policy" in afterwards.

(Harumph!) Just keeping the Historical Record straight.

Tango puts neat things up prolifically and I can't stop myself from clicking on them so it's his fault (or some variation thereof).

"Keeping the Historical Record Straight".

Edit: Or is that included in "Nitpicking"?

There's that one called The Final Word or something like that. And for some reason those story threads where each new contribution furthers the tale go on quite a spell too.

Hafen von Schlockenberg15 Sep 2016 11:46 a.m. PST

You mean The Final Solution to the TMP Problem? That's secret,so no posts allowed.

Baron Trapdoor15 Sep 2016 11:59 a.m. PST

Anything involving Larry Dunn of Karusan Miniatures and his bazzillion cowardly sock puppet accounts he use to blatantly attack and belittle competitors and rules designers both in forum land and on social media (FB).

Anything posed as a question to the membership – ie:
What's on your painting table?
How many sets of rules have you got?
Do you game with 6mm?
When did you start wargaming?
Do you use board games for your campaigns
etc etc etc

For maximum length, it can't just be Napoleonic: it has to be unimportant or irrelevant Napoleonic.

For second place, go for something which is purely a matter of opinion. Facts tend to shorten arguments.

"Patton's bricoles – hidden beneath a flooded men's room at the Lancaster host?"

Weasel15 Sep 2016 9:28 p.m. PST

Didn't one of the recent flame wars and DH'ing revolve around Napoleonic drummers or hats or something?

Hafen von Schlockenberg15 Sep 2016 9:52 p.m. PST

Mostly how long it took to train a drummer. Page after weary page. Kind of petered out after an acrimonious argument about what was inside the head of the Drum Major's mace. An important question, apparently. Score:8 pages, 357 posts.

Hey Winston--I'll see your eight posts, and,um,"raise" you two:

6 posts, four of them mine! Plus two Bashytubits memes.

Of course, they're in different catagories--
Yours: Somewhat obscure period.
Mine: No one cares (snif!)

Hafen von Schlockenberg16 Sep 2016 9:18 a.m. PST

What does this have to do with wargaming?

That's a topic,not a question!

This doesn't usually generate a huge number of posts, admittedly. Really more a "Most annoying rant" topic,as here:
