These would work quite well for Orcs, also, if painted properly -- especially if you want your Orcs to be somewhat smaller than your 28mm Humans. Cheers! |

I was thinking evl men from minis morgul – described in the LotR cominggout to attack minis tirith behind the lord of the nazgul. Nice to see fantasy ranges expanding |

Marc--At first, I thought you were confusing the scene with the march from Isengard,so I looked it up,and sure enough, before the "small black figures in rank upon rank, marching swiftly and silently, passing outwards in an endless stream", ride a "great cavalry of horsemen". From the description of the horrible nature of Minas Morgul, I had always thought of it as unendurable by humans, however fallen,in contrast with Isengard, from which marched,in addition to orcs and half-orcs, Men who Merry describes as "grim, but not particularly evil-looking". I'd still lean towards orcs for the infantry, but that seems extremely unlikely for cavalry--I doubt any horse could stand them! It does raise interesting questions about who these men might have been. So thanks for that. BTW,the Dunlanders in the west are described as having little or no armor,so something like ancient Celts or Germans would probably be appropriate, although "The Battles of the Fords of Isen" in "Unfinished Tales" refers to pikemen. Not so BTW,Redbox makes several sets of orcs and half-orcs: link And: link Q: Does anyone have these? How are they? Q 2. Is anyone familiar with this retailer? They're in "Eastern Europe",but I can't find anything on them. They specialize in Russian products, apparently. Their prices are certainly low (bordering on ridiculous on some lines), and they have free shipping on orders over $200. USD. You'll notice they sell them under the name "Alliance" for some reason. Odd, because the historicals are labeled Redbox. |

Now why couldn't this sculptor have done the horses for the RedBox Stradioti, Jinetes, Akinci etc…?????!!!!! |

I need to re-read that section, as in my mind I had the memory that Tolkien stated they were men – interesting, and almost like "real research" I have the orcs and half orcs – very good, especially the pikemen – someone has painted up a massive block of these on Benno's if you want to see how they paint up. Very close to the film. And as to the horses – simples. Buy both boxes and swap them over… |

@ Vincent. I´ve got virtually all the sets link and IMHO, they are well worth getting..loads of conversion potential and they brush up ok..in reality they look way better than on the box art. |

Those do look pretty good,Paul, and your painting is very good,of course. I can't believe you did all that conversion work! Did you pin the body halves? At least they more like orcs than Orkz. Heads that look like they could actually get through a birth canal, anyway. Reading Tolkien leads me to lean towards scale armor, but close enough. What about their Elves? Marc, please don't mention the films! Aaargh! No pikes at Helm's Deep,IIRC. Orcs wouldn't carry them, anyway. The pikemen near Isengard were Dunlanders, behind a ditch or dike, can't remember which;this was on the west side of the Isen. Theodred was stopped, and almost brought to grief. Then the fog lifted, and he saw the main force marching down the east side. . . |
