Check out youtube – creating a hologram, one or more exceptionally painted mini(s), one light source projecting the above photo and a cheap 4 sided plastic verticle screen.

Your soldier is marching in 3D.
Your artillerists are loading a canon and firing in 3D.
Your cavalry is charging…

ah well just an idea…

Probably a case of the animation plus having a CPU fast enough plus having a holotank

I looked up a youtube video and see that it is very very clever, and totally unusable for wargaming at this stage.
