"AFTER NEARLY A decade of exile from the spotlight, Mel Gibson is making headlines once again – and thankfully this time it's not for a booze-fueled anti-Semitic rant.

The Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker's latest movie, Hacksaw Ridge, premiered at the Venice Film Festival last week where it reportedly received a 10-minute standing ovation.

The film, which Gibson directed, tells the true story of Desmond T. Doss, a conscientious objector and U.S. Army infantryman who refused to fight during the Second World War.

An avowed pacifist from Lynchburg, Virginia, Doss volunteered for the military in early 1942, but vowed never to carry a weapon for religious reasons – he was a Seventh Day Adventist…"

I'm looking forward to seeing this film. I am not an avid WWII Pacific Theater gamer but ran across a magazine article about Doss many years ago. I'm interested to see this story come to life, I hope it is well done.

Also,actor Lew Ayres served as an Army medic and Chaplain's assistant.
