OOOh I like lanky giants vs. the steroidal horrors that sometimes populate today's fantasy battlefields.

"Lanky?" That giant looks downright unhealthy.

M C MonkeyDew12 Sep 2016 11:10 a.m. PST

The bigger (and the unhealthier) the sooner (and more fun it is when) they fall…

I usually don't criticise figures because anything I try to sculpt looks like a blob of plasticene – but – this giant wouldn't be seen on my table. Lanky is one thing, this is something different.

I'm sorry to say, that in my opinion it is just a lousy and terribly proportioned sculpt. Not trying to be harsh. I've got lanky Ral Partha giants sculpted by Tom Meier and they are fantastic. AA usually has much nicer miniatures. This is not up to their standard at all.

Thanks for your comments chaps. I must point out here what is told in the attached blog post. This new miniature is 'SHM' meaning it is by a new designer who is totally new to designing. A novice. We take a chance upon these designers and give them a shot to get experience. SHM means 'Self Help Miniatures'.

The Mountain Giant is very skinny and emaciated but it is actually a fine figure in your hand. Greg did his best and thus far our investment in him has paid for itself. He will go onto more things just as Eli Arndt and others did from SHM.

Normal Alternative Armies releases will be coming soon for Flintloque and then for High Fantasy.

Thanks.

Hi Gavin
While it is not for me – other people may love it. One's take on fantasy miniatures being such a subjective thing and all.

Thanks for the comment Brian. I understand.

Nice to give a new comer a chance, again I did not intend to be harsh. A creative paint job might make for an interesting miniature and your new sculptor can learn improve and build on their craft.

If it's 45mm tall it's not very big for a giant. It might work better as a 15mm giant.
