I understand Windsor and the similar US built T-16 carriers were used mainly as artillery/AT gun prime movers. Who used them? Were they mainly used by Canadian units or did British and other Commonwealth countries get them? Were they used for anything else?
Thanks.

Greetings

My understanding is principally Canadian, in roles that a Loyd would otherwise be used for e.g. 6pdr tow, 4.2" mortar carrier.

T16 production about 13,893 of which 96 were Soviet lend lease. As quite a few examples reman in the US not all of these went to Commonwealth forces. One source says transfers to Commonwealth under lend lease were 2625 in 1944 and 604 in 1945.

There are pictures of T-16 in Burma in 1945. NW Europe use seems to have been pretty much Canadian only.

Regards

Edward

Yup, Canadians for AT use: 6pdrs, 17prs, and their ammo carriers. Scroll about 2/3rds of the the way down this page link
