Some of the art work seems to show an air defence element of a Blow pipe being fired from the commanders coupler of a Spartan APC. Is this mearly a piece of artistic licence or did they practice this? Chris |

Ok just looked at another photo and it appears the trooper is firing from the fighting compartment……. Albeit with the commanders hatch open…….. Question still stands…..was this done/ trained for or did they dismount as a standard man pad? |

Artistic licence! It could happen as there is no immediate back blast as such, but never seen it done, Tally Ho! |

Yes Chris, that is the most likely scenario, whilst the only photo I have of 12 Regt Spartans, common practice was to have a stowage cage over the rear hatches. I shall ask some ex cloud punchers and have a reply: "We were always dismounted just like Javelin. The vehicle was always in a hide and comms were remoted to the fire trench, made a less likely target" Tally Ho! |

In chatting with an ex AD colleague there is in fact a safety cone of 90m to the rear and at least one case of the booster going off early blowing the gunner out of the fire trench. So there is a backblast and no, they would never be fired from the vehicle! Tally Ho! |
