I have no idea what they are called. Those green model work plates with square on them. That people use for model work and painting. I've been painting for 8 years now. And still haven't gotten one. Where do you get it? |

Obviously you won't miss not having one. Look in the art or stationery section of most bargain stores, they are called 'Cutting mats' here in Australia as they are/were intended for cutting sheet materials with a craft knife. If you go into an art shop and give the description you used in your post you should be directed to a pile of them in all sizes. If you don't want the printed squares or 'self healing' surface but just want paint and glue to peel off, look in a homewares/kitchen store for packs of thin, multi coloured polyethylene cutting boards, the type you can roll up easily. |

Right. It's a quilting tool. Try a fabric store. |

Right. It's a quilting tool. Well it can be. But it has a gazillion uses in all sorts of other hobbies and crafts. The primary design feature is described as "self healing". When you cut down on it with a craft knife, Stanley knife or whatever, it does not leave a mark or damage the surface in any way. Don't try and use one as a base when painting with acrylic paint though. It doesn't come off and you'll ruin the mat quickly. |

Try to find them on sale at a fabric shop. Hobby shops have them too but at a premium price. |
