I have seen everything from an RSO tractor to a Kettenkrad. What was the most prevalent? Thanks.

pak 40 standard tractor was the sdkfz 11 h/track, same chassis as 251.
then as the war got on you could have a 3 ton truck, e.g. opel blitz, or rso, or even a french somua h/t,
you could tow it with a ketenkrad for a short distance on flat road, but would only be a last resort.

Yes, anything and everything were used to tow the PAK 40 in a pinch, including Maultier halftracks, Kfz 69s, pretty much anything, though it was "supposed" be towed by 3-ton halftracks as above.

It does depend on which type of unit the gun was with.

SdKfz11 was typical for Mot PzGren for example, while the Armd equivalent was a SdKfz 251. Pz Div Atk Bn could use the Maultier, while in an Inf Div it could be a 3-tonner or an RSO.

Saw a photo many years ago of one being towed by a captured Bren Carrier…must have been pretty hard on the carrier I'd have thought.

I've come to understand that here in Finland they used what they could to tow them.

For instance captured Komsomolets tractors (from Winter War) which sure sound way underpowered, but you use what you get…
