Been musing on the news that MWBG is going to gain a 16 page fantasy/SF supplement. The sister magazine Tabletop Gaming is basically boardgames & F/SF miniature wargames – they have a Frostgrave scenario every issue for example. I really like this mix, but wonder if the "masterplan" is to move all the wargames bit out of Tabletop Gaming into MWBG. Tabletop Gaming is also having a revamp – they have a new editor from next issue. This is a genuine concern, because I was about to send off a subscription to Tabletop Gaming, but if they're going to drop wargames then maybe I don't need to – as I already have a sub' to MWBG. |

Interesting… I subscribe to Tabletop Gaming and love it because it covers a lot of ground, albeit usually not in any great depth, but it does touch on fantasy gaming which is my preferred genre. I stopped subscribing to MWBG some time ago due in big part to the lack of fantasy coverage, which meant that often most of the magazine had little or no interest to me (except when there was dark ages or medieval stuff). The new fantasy/sci-fi section might get me interested again -- we shall see. |

That was my first thought when I heard that Henry had resigned. I thought Warners would merge the two magazines. I feel that would be a dilution of both aspects of gaming: There's enough blue water between board and miniatures gaming to justify two titles. From what I've read of Tabletop Gaming, it leans towards Eurogames and Ameritrash (man, how I hate those terms) and not the historical or military games. While I think SF and Fantasy have an important place in miniature wargaming, the core of the hobby is historical military gaming and a merger of TTG and MWwBG would adversely affect both titles. |

I like Tabletop Gaming because the only wargaming in it is Sf/F – for some reason that sits well with the boardgames. I don't know why, but clearly the publishers agree with me (so far!) In case anyone's wondering what we're talking about : PDF link PDF link |
