"Kaigaku is a far-East-inspired RPG (makes me want to watch the original Nosferatu and eat a burrito). If you're a fan of ancient and medieval Japan, China, and Korea, you'll want to check it out. The bare-bones version of the rules is available as a free download. The Kickstarter campaign looks to fund an expanded and art-filled version. The game uses it's own blend of OSR-themed rules. The setting follows much this same principle. It's a mixing together of pieces from various real-world histories of Asian countries, as well as their folklore. The deluxe version will add in lots of new content that's not part of the original download (more than 3x as much), including NPC generators, rules for participating in massive battles, as well as using your character's honor as a weapon against others. The Kickstarter campaign is 3/4 to funding with still 27 days left on the clock…" See here link Amicalement Armand |

Why "watch the original Nosferatu and eat a burrito"? The game looks interesting. |

I think that's because Armand copied the news blurb verbatim from Tabletop Gaming News, and that part is a comment from Polar Bear (site admin) who wrote the blurb: link |

I'm afraid the "watch the original Nosferatu and eat a burrito" thing is my fault. A couple of weeks ago the author of this article mentioned how the Kensei game made him want to eat chinese food and watch Gordon Liu movies. So, of course, I responded that those are Chinese and this is Japanese and how that is akin to celebrating a new game about Teutonic Knights by eating Crepes and watching Gerard Depardieu films and now it's like a running gag with this guy in nearly all of his subsequent reviews he talks about how these games make him want to do x and x that usually have nothing to do with the theme of the games…at least he thinks he's funny. |
