…Is Coming. "Historically, some of the best war films ever made have been British. That kind of ended when Hollywood stepped up and dominated the film and entertainment market (after all they did have the budgets to do so). This history of WWII is mainly seen through the eyes of the U.S.A. and their involvement. Sadly, this has slightly put a bent on history and has been further reinforced by the computer games generation. Furthermore, Hollywood has also been responsible for some rewrites of history when churning out films, U-571 comes to mind. The fictitious plot attracted substantial criticism since, in reality, it was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine (from U-110 in the North Atlantic in May 1941), months before the U.S. had even entered the war. The anger over the inaccuracies even reached the British Parliament, where Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that the film was an "affront" to British sailors…" More here link Amicalement Armand |

That is good to hear. Has it been a decade yet, since the Dambusters remake was first mentioned? Seems like it, and I suspect we are no closer. |

I don't understand the interest in re-makes – we have a film about the Dambusters – encourage them to make a film of one of the countless other noteworthy incidents from the war. |

If only we had an Army, Air Force and Navy, we'd be able to make films about real events set in the present day and… wait, what?! We have actual armed forces? But then nothing film-worthy ever happens, like strapping soldiers to Apache gunships to mount rescue missions… wait, what?! |

There's a Dunkirk pic coming out too. Be interesting to see how they do Pegasus Bridge as a movie, it seems like a miniseries would be a better structure, ala Band of Brothers. Most of the tension is after the coup de main, so how much of the training etc. gets front-loaded onto that? |

I have high hopes for this film, but no doubt they will come to nothing. I just know that it will be full of overweight 50 year old 're-enactors in SS camouflage smocks. |

I hope this is done well. It is such an impressive story that deserves the attention to detail to make it right. |

I too have been following this for some time, seems they're taking their time and doing it right. I look forward to it. In fact I posted here about it, last year, I think. |

Is this the site where Lovat's commandos came to relieve the paras? That would be a great scene. |
