It is interesting that the Germans call it the German-French War, while in the English speaking world we call it the Franco-Prussian war.

Is that some sort of early machine gun? I wasn't aware that any of the German armies had such a thing.

It actually looks like a Nordenfeldt gun, which wasn't designed until after the FPW. And the only "German" nation which bought it was Austria-Hungary.
