So I have a 15mm Orc army I picked up in trade. Looking at it and thinking about basing – a good number of them are "big" orcs. They won't fit three on a 40x20 stand. My men are all based on 40mm wide frontages.

The smaller "regular" orcs fit on the stands just fine.

I could go to 40x30 and stagger them a bit, or I could keep to 40x20 and just do 2 per stand.

Thoughts?

Would the deeper base effect movement? If so stick to your standard size.

Base dimensions should not be multiplied unnecessarily. I'd to two to a stand first.

Unless it is very important to have three figures on a stand (and I can't think of a reason why it should be), stick with 40x20 and put two on each base.

Can you split them into a 66.6% smaller orcs and 33.3% bigger ones and manage two small and one big on the base size of your choice?

Variation always looks best on those sort of fellas

I had the same problem with very large Orcs; their bases are 40 x 40mm which for HOTT are Behemoths.

or

you can claim they are a double based element and give them an extra factor for rear support.

Would a skirmish formation be appropriate for some figs and allow for single or different basing for some?

Go 40 X 30. Mount them tonight, and never give it another thought. More figures per stand is always better than less.

You lost me at "Orc."

Three per stand. Orcs need to look the part, and two per stand is not as impressive. Can you cut down the figure bases and carefully bend arms to get them to fit a 40x20 stand? I assume you don't have the right mix of big to small to base 2 small and one big per stand.

Small and big are different troop types…

Going 40x30 in irregular formation…

Base singly for Dragon Rampant.
