Hi guys,

the second set in the Samurai Castle Builder series, the "Gates and Walls" is released!

Build Japanese castles any size you want with the easy to build and affordable paper model terrain set.

While the first set "Tower" allowed you to make towers of any size you want, this set gives you modules like walls, standard gates (different module lengths) and some special bonus gates. Combine these to build anything from a small fortification to a huge castle maze.

As an introductory offer the set is available this week until next sunday (10 SEP) for $5.00 USD (regular $7.50 USD) at DriveThruRPG.

Sample configuration. The tower is from the first set. Paper miniatures (by okumarts.com) not included.

For more information head over the my facebook page (papierschnitzel) or at my website (www.papierschnitzel.com)

If you have feedback and/or ideas for further extension, do let me know!

Enjoy,
Chris

Looks nice! Wish it came with sloped walls as an option. Still getting it :)

You mean the stone foundation you usually see below the "white" wall? I am thinking about how to do this best in paper. If I come up with an good idea I will definitely make them.

Years ago, I built a paper model of Le Crak des Chevaliers, which had sloping walls in the inner bailey. It's not too hard to make an angled box in paper! Just a little more math to determine the length of the angled face.

And those are really cool, I may need to buy a set.

The problem is not the angle but that the whole level would be raised. So I would need to design a modular system of modules that are easy to build yet sturdy enough to hold up in gaming with potentially heavy metal minis and gamers leaning on it :-)

Yeah, would probably need to add instructions for foamcore or foamed PVC (aka Sintra board) to back the paper.

Though I'd honestly just carve the stone foundations from insulation foam.

That's what I was thinking. That a lot of gamers would rather use some insulation foam to make a larger foundation.

Although I feel challenged to find a modular solution out of just paper/cardboard one could always just glue on the textures I would create for that onto the foam structure if you want a cohesive look.

On the other hand if you carve the stone structure with a pencil or pen onto the foam and do a little painting and drybrushing that would also look very nice!

A first prototype idea on how to make the sloped walls as modules …

And these are the parts it is made of (250gsm paper, so quite sturdy).

I still have to figure out a good way to connect them though.

Any ideas or feedback? Would you build a smaller or larger castle foundation structure with a system like this?

I'd actually include a bottom, so the angled base is a solid box. It will help with final strength. You might also want to include a couple extra internal bulkheads to help strengthen the box even more.

Though with that big 250g/m cardstock, I think you'd have to sell that directly and not make it a PDF file.

Why do you think it would have to be sold directly?
