The legs on the far right look a bit stocky – almost like a robot horse Take a look at Mr Barton's masterpieces again to see where you are going too big. Don't mean to sound nasty, just observations as I LOVE your Russian generals so I know you can sculpt |
von Winterfeldt | 16 Sep 2016 11:44 p.m. PST |
well let's be patient and watch the progress – then comment |
Sho Boki | 17 Sep 2016 1:50 a.m. PST |
Yes, I am aware that legs looks too big. I may cut them down by knife later, when all proportions are visible. But here are the comparison with AB horses legs.
|
von Winterfeldt | 17 Sep 2016 11:44 p.m. PST |
so far a great job, congratulations – legs have to the stronger than in reality otherwise the cast horse would brake off the legs, and indeed also ABs horse legs are too strong – as most other miniature horses in metal as well |
Sho Boki | 19 Sep 2016 3:30 a.m. PST |
Those with eastern saddle I try to sculpt with thinner legs..

I collected my courage and sculpted horses head today..
|
von Winterfeldt | 12 Dec 2016 6:18 a.m. PST |
the head looks good in my view, but the neck seems too long |
AICUSV | 12 Dec 2016 5:38 p.m. PST |
Appears that the length of a horses neck should be about the same as its head. Maybe this would be of use link Good luck, overall it looks good. |

so by adding the reins you achive optical shortening of the neck so it looks right – at least it works well for me, I am looking Forward to see the finished horse, again, well done |
Sho Boki | 18 Dec 2016 11:50 a.m. PST |
Horse is finished, I suppose.. only face seems too wide.
|
von Winterfeldt | 19 Dec 2016 12:00 a.m. PST |
looks good to me, maybe the opening of the nostrils a bit wieder as well – the cavalryman is sitting on a high saddle, like cossacks? |
Sho Boki | 19 Dec 2016 12:47 a.m. PST |
Yes, this is the eastern saddle, very high. Actually I suspect that some European hussar saddles must be high ones too.. |

von Winterfeldt | 24 Dec 2016 3:42 a.m. PST |
Maybe the head is a bit large – I like the nostrils – also I would bent the front left leg a bit – a very streight leg on a horse looks like a parade step of infantry |
Sho Boki | 24 Dec 2016 3:12 p.m. PST |
This pose is from Muybridge and leg is straight there. But metal is soft and everybody can bent any those legs as they wish. |
MDavout | 25 Dec 2016 1:01 p.m. PST |
Wow, You are doing a beautiful job on your horses. I particularily like the harness detail on the heads. |
Sho Boki | 26 Dec 2016 12:06 a.m. PST |
Thanks! But I still fear to sculpt these animals.. |

Heavy cavalry I assume? I am looking forward to see those cast and paint some. |
Sho Boki | 09 Feb 2017 12:18 a.m. PST |
I classify these as Line cavalry and Train horses. On some day I plan to sculpt one eastern horse doll too for Cossack ponies, Samurai horses and Light cavalry. |

Have problems with pricing policy. AB horse figures cost is equal with human figures cost, but my prices depends on weight (thanks to Postage rates and PayPal) and horse figures are two times heavier than human figures. So, as result, I must count one horse as two men. And even considering the fact, that my metal and producing is expensive, I may produce and sell horses cheaper than that. They cast well and need therefore less work for prepare. Any idea how to solve this? PayPal offer opportunity to set some sort of separate postage cost for separate items, but I don't understand, is this useful and how this work together with other items. |
von Winterfeldt | 21 Feb 2017 4:51 a.m. PST |
I am not understanding exactly your problem for usual manufacturers – you order figures – then posting is calculated extra by amount of the bill. Lets say 100 Euros figure cost plus 15 % costs for post and packing – would be 115 Euros total. |
Sho Boki | 21 Feb 2017 6:32 a.m. PST |
Post Office charge me by weight steps. Approximately 60 or less my 1:100 human figures is first step, over this until next 60 figures is next step etc. PayPal allows to use the same system, but by prices. I don't find there possibility to mark the weight of items. So I taked price of my 60 human figures as base steps for PayPal postage rates calculation. And if I use this principle for horse figures, then their price must be twice bigger than human figures to fit in fixed price/weight system of postage calculations. |
Sho Boki | 21 Feb 2017 10:32 a.m. PST |
I maked decision. Instead of 10.80 EUR the 6 horses set will be cost 7.20 I add only extra materials expenses. Because superior AB horses are available with cheaper prices, there are little possibilities, that somebody will buy my horses with big quantities and exceed the package limits. boki.ee/Painted_Figs/HORSES/Boki_Shop.htm |
Sho Boki | 01 Mar 2017 6:08 a.m. PST |
And first order with horses already brokes the limit. :-) I checked, my Krakus Cavalry and Prussian Towarzcys fit on my new horses without problems. But Cossacks and Generals need to trim horses bellies with knife.
|
von Winterfeldt | 01 Mar 2017 6:14 a.m. PST |
but you wouldn't mount a Krakus on a heavy cavalry horse?? |
Sho Boki | 01 Mar 2017 6:46 a.m. PST |
This is true. But I just checked the compatibility, because in future my light horses will have the same shape for riders. So I must not resculpt Krakus and Towarzcys for new horses. |
rmcaras | 01 Mar 2017 11:33 a.m. PST |
no problem…I am not picky. No one has ever remarked that my cavalry riders were on the wrong size horse in over 45 years of gaming. And they rode what they could get, IMO. |
