Should all of the belting for this regiment be buff? I've seen illustrations of officers belting being white. What about the standard belting for the standard bearer? Thank you for the help in advance. Jim |

I will just refer you to a thread titled "British buffs – belts colours . . ." on the TMP Napoleonic Painting Guides board, with the first post on Aug. 25 (this year), and the most recent so far from Sept. 2. |

Since this appears to be posted only on the American Revolution board, I assume it is this period you are interested in. In theory, the 1768 Clothing Warrant provided for buff-faced regiments to wear buff belts and also buff small clothes (waistcoat and breeches); I say "in theory" because AWI re-enactors have found pictorial evidence that at least two regiments – one serving in N America, the other in Europe – that wore white small clothes and belts (they both were listed as "light buff" in terms of facing colour, which may have influenced this). Colour/standard belts weren't worn until the Napoleonic Wars – certainly not in the AWI. |

"Worn in a matter as the Colonel shall direct." Or some phrase like that. If you have evidence that contradicts the Warrant, go for it. And point it out to the twits who sniff at your "incorrect" paint job. |
