Sold off all of my Games Workshop stuff about a decade ago. I had started collecting in 88. I recently went to my local hobby store and purchased Space Hulk for $85. USD Found Betrayal at Calth and purchased for $110. USD Love 30K now. Started going to the Hobby store on Wednesdays. We must have at least 20 or more players. Purchased Kill Team for $53 USD and then bought models for Tyranid and Eldar kill teams for about $100. USD Purchased a White Dwarf yesterday, can't get much better. |

Asked for a discount, been dealing with the same store for years. Plus I am a nice guy. |

I was the same way, hadn't really played much GW stuff for about a decade, jumped back in last year with AoS and then BaC and haven't looked back. Two things are great about the cost: 1) I can shop in my own home. There are plenty of old models lying around to paint. 2) the Start Collecting boxes are just a great value, as are a bunch of the starter sets. I have two of the BaC sets. |

Could you give me a run-down on Kill Team for the non-GW gamer? My son has always loved his space marines, and I've helped him assemble his force as a modeler, but he never bought into playing "full" 40k, largely because of the cost of fielding and maintaining the armies. Is Kill Team a new rule book, or just a way to sell smaller sets of figures, or …? Cheers, Christopher |

It is a boxed set for $65. USD You get 10 space marines and 10 Tau. There is a rulebook in it for playing kill team missions, small scale skirmish games. It also has ideas for linking them and making small narrative campaigns. Plus there is a regular small sized 40K rulebook in there. link It seems like they are trying to promote on-table storytelling with this more than competitive gaming but I'm not sure. That seemed to be the direction they were going with AoS before they got a lot of kick back from that. |

What's the best 40k rule book if you plan to use other figures in 15mm? |

I'd say 3rd edition is your best bet. It is when it went from being a clumsy skirmish game to a big battle game. It was as streamlined as it was going to get, the armies (except for the orks) are all pretty good right in the main rulebook and I bet you can find it for $5. USD |

Is Kill Team similar to Rogue Trader in scope, just the more recent mechanics? |

When did they drop the issue numbers from the WD ? Was any coherant reason given ? |

I don't think that Kill Team has the same level of RPGyness that Rogue Trader had. It is more of a straight up table top skirmish game. I think the closest you will get to Rogue Trader is Inquisitor. I didn't know that they had dropped the numbers from White Dwarf, but I don't have any of the new monthly ones yet. |

Here is a more in depth review of Kill Team that may answer some of your questions better than I can. link |

Okay, so it's basically a way to play 40k with small squads and few or no vehicles etc. However, it looks like you need the base rules and army lists anyway, to choose your force within those limits? They're not real clear on that. I'll stop by the local store tomorrow and ask. |

I think you do need the base rules, but they come with the set. So you get the Kill Team rules as well as the 40K rules. I don't know if there are small army lists in the kill team book or not. They are likely to have them for Tau and Space Marines at least. Could be really useful for doing some of the 30K scenarios from the novels. |

From what I understand, you will need the codex for the army you want to build unless you are going to play Space Marine vs Tau only. It doesn't look like it comes with dice or templates either. It looks like the game is an introductory game for beginners. I could see them offering different Kill Teams to order online as well as Kill Team supplements if this does well. Maybe pre designed Kill Teams in White Dwarf? |

Welcome back! Nice acquisitions. But how many have you painted?! 😂 |

Thanks, I know it has been a while since I participated on TMP. I am still assembling most of them. I purchased colored spray primers for my different factions, so it shouldn't take that long to get them ready to play. I will add the detail in batches on the units I want to use first. My only problem right now is that I had surgery on my leg less than a month ago and it is slowing me down (reason I am back on TMP posting instead of painting) I am planning on painting half of my marines red for the Word Bearers and the other half blue(Ultramarines). My Eldar will be black and bone (Ulthwe) and my Tau are going to be white. I have a great trick for inking and shading light colored figures cleanly and quickly. My Tyranids will be what ever color the boys want. |
