Hi, was trying to find information on German generals, officer uniforms in the AWI. So far have come up with very little on the internet. Any uniform pictures anyone knows of? Thanks for any help.

If you can work out which regiment they were Inhaber of, that will tell you what their uniform is.

According to Trumbull's painting of the surrender at Saratoga, Riedesel was a dashing hussar. grin

I question the accuracy of that depiction.

Me, too, Winston.

Riedesel was the Inhaber of his eponymous regiment which was part of his brigade. I painted him in that uniform.

I think a standard Mark I officer in yellow facings would do the trick.

You may find sufficient detail in this article:-

There was a very good website on the Brunswick troops, maintained by a lovely chap called Claus Reuter, author of several books on the Brunswickers in the AWI; however, it seems to have been removed.

As Clib points out, it was normal in most "German" states at this time for generals to wear the uniform of which they were Inhaber/Chef.
