Is it rude to post a link if you like something that another gamer has blogged about? Should posting links be left to the blogger? * yes * no |

There's no problem with posting a link to a blog but I don't think it is right to cut and paste pictures and text from a blog and post them here on TMP without the blogger's permission. |

I think it'd be rude if the post was "hey look at what this moron said" or "look at this crappy painting". But "hey look at this great terrain" or linking to blog posts that are how-to's is legit for anyone. |
Jakar Nilson | 02 Sep 2016 1:47 p.m. PST |
It is rude if you don't put in a short preamble first about the fact that it is from someone else's blog. A short sentence or two should cover it. |

It is absolutely not rude, but rather it's a compliment. I can't think of a blogger who wouldn't be pleased with the extra traffic such a link might generate. It is such sharing that makes good blogs become popular. |
Zagloba | 02 Sep 2016 2:29 p.m. PST |
In general no, but taking credit for someone else's work by responding to comments as if you did more than post a link is probably the most infuriating thing I see on this site. (smile). Rich |
GarrisonMiniatures | 02 Sep 2016 3:00 p.m. PST |
As long as a link is being made to the original blog and it is clear that the poster is not the originator or author, no problem. No different than links to news articles or whatever. Certainly I've never objected when some one has posted about my blog. Likewise, should a blogger post something but not include links, then I see nothing wrong with adding them, again bearing in mind that the original poster should be credited with their contribution. |

Posting is good… Getting crazy and angry on someone on THIS site because of what they said on someone else's blog or FB page, or another website is bad…
YMMV… |

What vtsaogames and SJ said. If bloggers want post stuff here they will – no middle man needed in my experience. No harm in drawing attention to a blog you like though. |

There's no problem with posting a link to a blog but I don't think it is right to cut and paste pictures and text from a blog and post them here on TMP without the blogger's permission. Why, who'd do a thing like that? |

No … nothing but good as long as it is clear you're linking to something somebody-else has written because it is, say, good/interesting/useful. Phil |

I don't think it is rude to post a link to another blog. Obviously, give credit where credit is due. If adding a comment, be objective not derogatory. If the original blogger didn't want their work seen by anyone, they probably would not have posted it on the internet in the first place. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 02 Sep 2016 6:55 p.m. PST |
I don't think it is right to cut and paste pictures and text from a blog and post them here on TMP without the blogger's permission. Two pieces of information for you: Regarding text: Copyright law determines what is legal – in general, a short extract is fine. Regarding pictures: Pictures cannot be "cut and pasted" to TMP. If you see a picture on TMP from a blog in our forums, it means someone has posted a link to the picture on that blog, and that blog allows such links. |

If the original blogger didn't want their work seen by anyone, they probably would not have posted it on the internet in the first place. Some bloggers want to control how that information is presented, who presents it, or where it is presented. |
Tango01 | 02 Sep 2016 8:56 p.m. PST |
"Who" and "where" have sense… if they decided their work have not to be seen here…. there are personal reasons… and the only one are "I don't like the site nor the person who post my work there"… so, it is completely subjective… (smile) Fortunately the vast majority not only grateful that their jobs are posted on tmp … many decide to join the site …. Amicalement Armand |

There can be different reasons for posting. If I have been doing something on my blog and think it might be of interest then I used to post about it on TMP. Likewise, I will post a link to my blog if it expands on someone else's post – an example being a recent post concerning mdf buildings. However – I don't think anyone here would be interested in every post I do on my blog. So if there's something I haven't considered to be of wider interest, I wouldn't post. My blog is produced, after all, for my purposes rather than the general interest of anyone else. So other people think a post is worthy of a wider audience? then I'm fine with someone posting links/pictures to it here. Once it's on my blog I'm throwing it open to the world anyway. |

The whole point of the internet is connectivity and linking. If you don't want someone seeing your online blog, take up scrap booking or create a closed Facebook group. |

a link to a blog without asking first is no problem, re-posting content from said blog without asking first is just bad manners. |
CeruLucifus | 04 Sep 2016 12:12 p.m. PST |
Agree with majority here. Posting link is fine. Posting short description or summary is helpful as not everybody has time to click every link. Using extract for this purpose seems reasonable as long as it is presented as extract and not poster's work. I believe this is consistent with fair use copyright law. That's about posting link to a website which is question that was asked. (Note, I don't see any difference for this question for blogs versus other kinds of websites.) Subject however is slightly different, posting *about* a blog. I feel it is fine to post one's own thoughts when posting a link. |
Old Contemptibles | 04 Sep 2016 9:19 p.m. PST |
No, why not? If you have a blog and allow free access then you have to expect that. |
Marc the plastics fan | 05 Sep 2016 3:43 a.m. PST |
Can't see the difference as long as it is linked. If it is just copied with no li k then not nice. Armand does it well – always includes a link. I know he posts from other blogs so i don't get confused. |
