What wargame rule or conventio seem to be zombies, in your group/ period or more generally?
One that came up was that horse and infantry cannot charge the same target unit.
Some rule conventions facilitate a miniature game experience in a reasonable amount of time, others are just daft.
I like how an archer unit may survive a melee, and still shoot as effectively as they did before the combat…what they kept their bows and quiver of arrows intact?

Life is too short to include a rule simulating a loss of firepower based on bows or arrows being damaged in melee.

I think most rules abstract that as melee including short range shooting. So maybe the attacker tried to close but was driven off by point blank fire.

How about this one: In a tactical platoon sized skirmish, troops have to explicitly be told to be on "overwatch" and get to shoot only at one target prancing about in their field of fire.

Which is why I like THW and Nordic Weasel rules.

The thing about wargame units is that they are incredibly resilient. At Waterloo the Inniskillings lost a third of their strength, and this was considered notable. On the table the unit is just getting warmed up.

Casualties have to be considered a general loss of fighting power, not actual bleeding individuals. Thus your broken bows are included in that.

At the other extreme is the BKC version, where, unless you play the wound rule ported in from WarMaster, there are Troll Tanks – you can repeatedly get them to 1 point of dead, then next turn they are fine. Particually annoying with the '1:1' scale that is a claimed option. Shooting at tanks is pretty binary.

That's why as Last Hussar says, the details of broken bows and arrows is usually aggregated in the total damage taken by the unit. I agree with Terrement that if the archer unit was engaged by infantry and they took no damage while killing the opponent off, not only are they without damage, but they probably have their cheese on, too. I'd give 'em a bonus!
