This is an interesting event, especially given some of the people of this country wishing for this very thing. Seems they almost got their wish, and it isn't even November yet: link Without getting too political, which is verboten here, I think it is "safe" to say that there are many in the USA that are disillusioned with their choices for November, so some have come up with the idea of "Asteroid 2016" as their slogan as an alternative. Seems they almost got their wish with an unknown rock passing by, that was previously undetected, and shaved the Earth less than about 1/4 of the way from here to the moon, or about 3X the distance from the planet to our satellites in orbit around it. So, looks like the cosmic billiards still have some surprises for us, and we may or may not get any warning about them. Just in the last few days, Russia detected a radio signal from a star, and possibly planet, less than 100 light years from here. Wonder if they were trying to warn us of an attack? Appears those Klendathu ranging shots are getting closer, and closer. |

This all disappeared rapidly… … I was quite interested in the F-35 debate (seeing as my royal club in the UK will be getting a bunch at some point). I guess I blinked and it all got too political. |

Then again the radio signal detected was over a year ago and not confirmed. link |

No, I asked Bill to try to adjust/delete the F-35 stuff – really wanted it back under an appropriate title, like the blank one that first cropped up, without the details posted above, first, by the bug, on my asteroid thread. First time I've ever "bugged" myself, with my own second posting, so it's been a banner day. My take on the F-35 was that I'm more inclined to believe Lockheed, and various experts who say it isn't ready, seems to be heading toward failure than improving, and the UK guy who said it won't be ready for combat before 2020, at the earliest. Lockheed even says it's be 2017, before the gun can be used. |

Gotcha :) The bug is a proper pain :( The F35 looks to be an excellent aircraft but it still has a long way to go. I'm in the RAF so I have a vested interest in its success… seeing as we got rid of a proven platform (Harrier) in order to make way for it and the arrival dates have just kept slipping to the right… As for the meteor thing… it is amazing that we have been lucky enough to avoid an extinction level event for as long as we have. There will almost certainly come a day when we will go the same way as the dinosaurs… and there will be nothing we can do about it (no matter what we like to think about our technology). |
